A Truth to Behold

you are
your own
standard of beauty

Like a Man

he said
build something

so i did

stacked blocks
like a man
but krooked
with style

he said
no
stronger

so i studied
triangles
made a roof
out of paper

he said
too soft
you can’t sit
reading all day!

so i bled
into steel
called it
structure

i carved
the family crest
into my flesh

put up walls
that kept out
everything
including
myself

built a door
locked it

once
i tried to add a window

he said
too open

so i closed it
with bricks
until the house
was solid
and lonely

like a man
